You can be surrounded by people every day and remain completely unknown.

Attendance is not belonging. You can sit in the same pew for six years, greet warmly, serve faithfully on a rota, and still have nobody who would notice if you vanished for a month.

Belonging costs something. It means being known in your unimpressive parts, telling one person the unedited version and staying in the room while they respond. That is the whole cost, and it is why most people settle for attendance.

The early church had no programmes. It had homes, shared meals, and people who knew each other's actual troubles and money problems. Nothing since has improved on it.
